Anthracite Center welcomes ‘Nunsense’ on Nov. 16 and 17

October 15, 2019

CARBONDALE, Pa. - Our Cabaret Productions and The Anthracite Center at NBT, 41 N. Main St., Carbondale, are bringing “Nunsense” back for its triumphant return to Carbondale on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.

Dan Goggin’s off-Broadway hit musical comedy first played in the northeastern Pennsylvania city in 1991 at the Corner Bistro Theater under the direction of Robert J. Misko. “Nunsense” was last presented in Carbondale 10 years ago under Misko’s direction.

The comedy of Catholicism begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters. In dire dire need of funds for the burials, the sisters decide to raise the money by putting on a variety show.

The production includes a cast of nuns including a former circus performer, a streetwise sister from Brooklyn, a wannabe ballerina, the memorable and lovable Sister Mary Amnesia, and more laughs than you can shake a yardstick at. Featuring tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon.

Misko, who was also the first non-Equity director in the world to present the show, directs this production and stars as Sr. Mary Regina, mother superior of the Little Sisters of Hoboken. John Baldino produces and stars as Sr. Mary Hubert. The cast also includes Christine McGeachie as Sr. Mary Amnesia; Rory Misko, Rob’s daughter, as Sr. Mary Leo; and Courtney Rosenkrans as Sr. Robert Anne. The production manager is Rae Baldino, and set design is provided by Jeff D’Angelo Design Group with choreography by Ballroom ONE Dance Company.

Our Cabaret Productions is an ASCAP-licensed, non-Equity, professional theatrical production company. The creative team has over 25 years of experience in producing “Nunsense.” Based in Scranton, Our Cabaret regularly produces the show in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland, often as a fundraising event for churches and nonprofits.

“Nunsense” is produced through special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., New York, N.Y.

Advance tickets are available starting at $20 from www.ourcabaret.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006. A pre-show reception including drinks and light fare is offered on both days for an additional cost.
